Sculpture to Temporarily Slow Decay

This piece intervenes in the natural decay of a large dead pine tree in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The sculpture literally holds the tree together with an elaborate clamp and armature system preventing pieces of it from falling to the ground for the duration of the project. This piece lasts for one year after which the sculpture is removed and the tree continues to decay at its natural rate. This project is part of a series that directly interacts with natural forces such as evaporation, erosion, growth and decay.
